Probing further into the etymology of ‘maid’ tells us that it was originally used to refer to an unmarried woman. It later came to mean female domestic servants. It is important to shed light on the classist and casteist connotations of this word.

It carries with itself problematic notions of virginity and service. Therefore, replacing this with ‘domestic helper/worker’ is crucial.
